Will you be joining the treat or trick entourage in your neighbourhood? Are you anticipating the arrival of the great pumpkin in the pumpkin patch? Who says the Halloween can only be full of horrors? Have a sweet night, better still to have some pumpkin soup.
Some things will still grow even after they have been cut off. Your hair, your nails, your supposedly long discarded worries, memories and more. I sometimes wonder how we can manage to remember things so vividly when we can’t seem to memorize things ever since the internet and all electronic gadgets were born. The cell phone numbers that can only be retrieved from our cell phone data, the email addresses and millions of passwords which are a part of us yet never part of our memory, the names of some faces that seem rather familiar and strange at the same time and the road directions, the notes to study, the scriptures and poetry, even song lyrics and important dates that matters to our loved ones… …we will apparently always forget some and for others, they will only disappear when forever is long past.
Mark 7:14-23
14Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, "Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. 15Nothing outside a man can make him 'unclean' by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a man that makes him 'unclean.' "[a]
17After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about this parable. 18"Are you so dull?" he asked. "Don't you see that nothing that enters a man from the outside can make him 'unclean'? 19For it doesn't go into his heart but into his stomach, and then out of his body." (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods "clean.")
20He went on: "What comes out of a man is what makes him 'unclean.' 21For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, 22greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23All these evils come from inside and make a man 'unclean.' "
