I dreamt of Russia, and how I would down its famous vodka like I would do my tequilla stunts. Also, its ballet dance with the true-blue ballerinas like the movie “White Nights” shown so many years back. I kind of remember an actor cum ballet dancer whom I have a crush on years back, some prolific, tongue-twister name he has…Then of course, there is its philosophy and literature, Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky and his “existentialistic” writings, Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev and his legendary classic, First Love, not forgetting Leo Tolstoy and his epic War and Peace! And its classical music, the composer of Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, the great Sergei Rachmaninoff! In case you have no idea what this great composition is, it was featured in the timeless movie “Somewhere In Time”, starring the forever superman, Christopher Reeve and goddess-like Jane Seymour. They used to be the first golden couple onscreen if I am allowed to say that, and the tune that came on during their leisure boat ride, with Christopher humming it to Jane, and she later had someone made a musical box winding to that tune that signifies their endless love. I still kept with care, the cruxifix from my mentor when he was there to attend a conference. The land of many churches (Orthodox Christianity) and the legendary gaiety of the Moscow circus and the colourful steeples at the Red Square and cool military apparel, specifically the hat, the coat and the shining boots,… may not be a dream after all.
