사랑비

Yawn!

A highly anticipated drama which ends with a generally low rating record when aired in Korea, and I thought it was indeed quite disappointing. Even before it was aired, the news that an upcoming drama directed by Yoon Seok-Ho was a good enough reason to excite me. He is one of the most important and influential persons in the whole Hallyu industry; his much acclaimed works such as “Autumn in my heart”, “Winter Sonata”, “Summer Scent” and ” Spring Waltz” are what make people go crazy over Korean drama in the early days of the Korean Exports, and the artistes starring in them all became famous nation wide and especially overseas. I came to know more about the country through most of his works and I always like his presentation of great cinematography; colors and lights, and the alluring scores accompanying the poignant tales of destined love. But years after his last drama which I believe it to be the “Spring Waltz”, I must say the magic has fizzled out. In fact, he peaked at “Winter Sonata” and “Summer Scent” was delightful enough with the introduction of the refreshing actress, Son Ye Jin back then. “Spring Waltz”  I thought was rather tiring and now this, the drama “Love Rain” was almost unbearable. I totally understood the bad ratings even though it has received good response from the foreign(as opposed to the locals, Koreans) audience. I believe most appreciate the drama merely because they are fans and supporters of the actor and actress, but for others who are just hoping to catch a good show like myself, this has been a let down. Fortunately, the songs are rather soothing and the bright colors of the spring cheered me on whenever I was about to give up watching.

Director Yoon, what’s next?
